Oil, Gas & Solid Materials
Our oil and gas department was created out of the exigent need to bridge gaps in the provision of services to the energy sector. Nigeria as one of the world’s leading oil-producing nations has a strong presence of global oil-producing and servicing companies. Also, the recent discovery of solid minerals in industrial quantities in the country has accentuated the development of a solid mineral program by the Nigerian government. Consequently, it is expected that there would be significant growth in the exploitation of solid minerals in the country within the next few years.
There is a pressing need for specialists in Nigeria to handle complex projects emanating from the energy sector. unfortunately, there are insufficient Nigerian lawyers with expertise in managing legal projects in the energy sector. Alphabet has over the years garnered enormous experience in this field of practice. We have drafted and reviewed various forms of agreements involving Oil & Gas contracts.
We have assisted in negotiating contracts that involved farm-out agreements. We have also drafted a gas sales agreement and advised on the unitization scheme and on the tax implications of Production Sharing Contracts. We have provided extensive legal advice to clients on start-up projects in the Solid Minerals sector. These include obtaining mining licenses, negotiating with rural community leaders, and structuring contracts.
